After turning down the opportunity to play for Al-Nassr, his current team, Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is anticipated to join his main competitor, Lionel Messi, in Major League Soccer.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has maintained his remarkable goal-scoring rate after joining Al-Nassr in 2023, netting 117 times in 113 matches.
At the age of 40, Ronaldo was rumored to be departing from Al-Nassr in May and is reported to have received a ‘tempting’ offer from another team in the SPL.
Ronaldo opted to stay with his team, as his existing contract runs until the summer of 2027.
This week, though, new questions have arisen regarding his future in Saudi Arabia.
On Monday, Al-Nassr, who are three points behind the Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Hilal, played against Al-Riyadh without Cristiano Ronaldo.
Portuguese source A Bola stated that the player is absent not due to injury or illness, but because of a conscious decision he made himself.
Rumor has it that Ronaldo is dissatisfied with the Public Investment Fund’s management of the club and thinks that other teams owned by the same group, such as Al-Hilal, are receiving preferential treatment.
Ronaldo is said to be quite troubled by the impression that Al-Nassr is not making sufficient investments, given that the club brought in only one new player during the January transfer window.
Bookmakers suggest that if Ronaldo’s problems cause him to depart, relocating to the USA and becoming part of the MLS is the most likely option.
The odds of Ronaldo joining any MLS team are currently 7/4, while he is at 5/2 to make an emotional return to his former club, Sporting. The likelihood of him transferring to another Saudi Arabian club is 5/1. The odds for a transfer back to Real Madrid are 10/1.
During his initial stint at Manchester United, Ronaldo became a globally renowned player, securing three Premier League titles and the Champions League while at Old Trafford after joining under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ronaldo became one of the greatest players of all time at Real Madrid, netting an astonishing 450 goals in 438 matches for the club.
