Transfer: Liverpool’s £110m offer for Florian Wirtz rejected

Liverpool have had a record-breaking offer turned down by Bayer Leverkusen for attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to reports from BILD.

New manager Arne Slot has placed Wirtz at the top of his transfer wishlist as he aims to strengthen a squad that secured the Premier League title in his debut season at Anfield.

Wirtz was instrumental in Leverkusen’s remarkable 2023–24 Bundesliga title-winning campaign, earning widespread attention for his performances.

The 22-year-old has frequently been linked with a switch to Bayern Munich, while Manchester City are also said to be monitoring him closely, with Pep Guardiola reportedly seeing him as a natural replacement for Kevin De Bruyne in the creative midfield role.

Despite interest from elsewhere, Liverpool are now seen as the frontrunners for the German international, having already reached a personal agreement with the player.

The Merseyside club submitted an offer valued at €130 million (£110 million), but Leverkusen rejected the bid, holding out for a fee closer to €150 million (£127 million) to part ways with one of their top stars.
