Leny Yoro, a new defender for Manchester United who joined from Lille, has made his first speech.
Real Madrid’s offer for Yoro to seal a £60 million trade to Old Trafford has been declined.
United will fork out little more than £52 million up front and an additional £6.5 million.
Although it was believed that Madrid was the 18-year-old’s top option, United made a concerted effort to persuade the Frenchman to sign because he was regarded as a priority signing.
In a statement on Thursday, Yoro said: “Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour.
“Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.”
