Troops arrest suspected gunrunner, recover submachine gun in Taraba

A suspected gunrunner has been captured in Taraba State by 6 Brigade Nigerian Army troops under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, or OPWS.

Alhaji Adamu Usman was the suspect who was taken into custody in the state’s Gassol Local Government Area on January 13, 2025.

The acting spokesperson for the brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde, told reporters in Jalingo a few minutes ago that he had discovered goods, including a fake submachine gun.

“The operation, conducted on 13 January 2025, was based on credible intelligence. Troops launched a precise raid on the suspect’s residence in Maraban Gassol, located in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

“During the search, they uncovered the illegally fabricated submachine gun, which is believed to be linked to arms trafficking activities,” the statement read.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, expressed his excitement at the development and commended the soldiers for their professionalism and bravery in carrying out the operation.

He reiterated the brigade’s dedication to upholding the state’s peace and halting the spread of illicit weapons.
