Troops operating under the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), alongside personnel from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, have eliminated an armed member of a militia group who tried to snatch a soldier’s weapon during a follow-up mission in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Media Information Officer for OPEP, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, disclosed the development in a statement released on Sunday.
He stated that the event took place after the individual was apprehended on September 4, 2025, in the Kaskra area of Barkin Ladi LGA.
Major Zhakom revealed that the suspect was caught with an AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition. During questioning, the individual admitted involvement in various illegal operations within the region and offered to guide military personnel to his group’s hideout, with the goal of recovering additional weapons.
While leading the soldiers to the alleged location, the suspect suddenly attempted to grab a soldier’s rifle in an effort to flee. The troops acted immediately, neutralizing him during the encounter.
Major Zhakom further emphasized that forces under Operation Enduring Peace remain fully dedicated to eliminating criminal threats in Plateau State and nearby regions, and will continue their efforts until the entire Joint Operations Area is completely secure.
