Trouble Deepens for Ekiti APC Guber Aspirant as Court Makes Unexpected Decision

An Ekiti State Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has withdrawn the bail previously granted to an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Abimbola Jumoke Olawumi, in an ongoing case involving allegations of blackmail, cyberbullying and issuing death threats against the Chief Executive Officer of agro-allied firm, YSJ Limited, Yemisi Joluwe.

Olawumi was initially arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti on July 23, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge and was admitted to bail on self-recognition.

During the proceedings, defence counsel, Ayokunle Odunayo Okunade, apologised to the court for his client’s absence, stating that she was unable to attend due to health-related issues.

However, Police Prosecutor Samson Osobu rejected the explanation, arguing that the defendant had no valid reason for failing to appear before the court.

Osobu maintained that despite claiming to be ill, Olawumi was allegedly active on social media on July 26 and 27, 2026, where she reportedly continued to insult, curse, threaten, bully and intimidate the complainant, as well as other prominent figures in Ekiti State.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant’s alleged actions constituted a clear violation of the conditions attached to the bail earlier granted by the court.

He therefore urged the court to revoke the bail and issue a bench warrant for her arrest.

Delivering his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun expressed dissatisfaction over the defendant’s failure to appear before the court.

The magistrate observed that the court expected every individual granted bail to strictly comply with its conditions, adding that Olawumi’s absence fell short of that expectation.

He consequently revoked the bail earlier granted to the defendant, issued a bench warrant for her arrest, and adjourned the matter until August 17, 2026, for further hearing.
