Trump blasts US Senator for meeting with man mistakenly deported to El Salvador

U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen following the senator’s recent visit to El Salvador, where he met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man reportedly deported by mistake to the country’s notorious mega-prison.

Posting on his Truth Social account on Friday, Trump referred to Van Hollen as a “fool” and accused him of seeking publicity.

“Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland looked like a fool yesterday standing in El Salvador begging for attention from the Fake News Media, or anyone. GRANDSTANDER!!!” Trump wrote.

Van Hollen, meanwhile, posted a picture after meeting with Abrego Garcia.

“I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance,” Van Hollen said in a tweet on on X.

“I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love.”

Van Hollen’s recent post has drawn responses from certain members of the opposition party.

This follows the senator’s statement on Wednesday, where he revealed that officials in El Salvador refused to grant him access to Abrego Garcia.
