Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi discussed President Donald Trump’s remarks about Nigeria’s security issues and his vocal support of banditry, terrorism, and Boko Haram activities in a recent Voice of the People TV interview from 33:27. He emphasized that he will continue to speak on matters impacting Nigerians notwithstanding political pressure from abroad.
According to him, “I Don’t Think Trump Can Silence Me; He Can Only Deny Me A Visa Or Make Me Return To My Country.” He explained that his focus remains on confronting the threats posed by terrorists, bandits, and extremist groups, and that he will continue to speak independently in defense of affected communities.
Gumi stressed that attacks have affected both Muslims and Christians, and that characterizing the violence as being directed at a particular religious group oversimplifies Nigeria’s complicated security situation. Instead of depending on outside influence, he contended that effective solutions must mix strategic military activities with social and economic reforms.
He also emphasized that although foreign leaders may voice their thoughts, home authorities are ultimately in charge of safeguarding Nigerian lives.
Gumi called on the government to bolster local security forces, involve communities, and put policies in place that deal with issues like poverty, marginalization, and a lack of education that are the main roots of extremism.
In closing, the scholar reiterated his dedication to national security and peace. He maintained that his activism, which he views as essential to safeguarding individuals and promoting long-term peace throughout Nigeria’s areas impacted by terrorism and banditry, cannot be silenced by threats, visa restrictions, or diplomatic pressure.
