Donald Trump has declared that April 2 will be a “liberation day” for America, the day he intends to implement “reciprocal tariffs” to reset global trade.
In a post on Truth Social Friday, Trump claimed that the United States has been “taken advantage of and mistreated” by countries worldwide for many years.
He expressed confidence that his recent trade policies would allow the US to regain both its “money and respect.”
He wrote, “April 2nd is Liberation Day in America!!! For DECADES we have been ripped off and abused by every nation in the World, both friend and foe.
“Now it is finally time for the Good Ol’ USA to get some of that MONEY, and RESPECT, BACK. GOD BLESS AMERICA”!!!
Economists have raised alarms that the new tariffs could trigger a recession, both in the US and globally. The tariffs have led to retaliatory actions from other countries, increasing concerns about an economic slowdown.
