Trump warns Iran ahead Saturday’s ‘direct talks’

On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump is set to engage in “direct talks” with Iran regarding a nuclear agreement.

Trump, who has consistently warned that Iran should not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, emphasized that a failure to reach an agreement would be detrimental to Tehran.

Having previously withdrawn the U.S. from an earlier nuclear deal during his first term, Trump stated that the upcoming discussions would take place at a “very high level.”

He cautioned that if no deal is reached, it would be “a very bad day for Iran.”

Just last month, President Trump suggested the possibility of military action against Iran after Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, publicly rejected the offer for direct talks.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said: “We have a very big meeting on Saturday with Iran, and we’re dealing with them directly. And maybe a deal is going to be made, that would be great.”

The U.S. President warned that Iran would face “great danger” if the discussions end without a resolution.

He said: “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and if the talks aren’t successful, I actually think it’ll be a very bad day for Iran.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, confirmed the upcoming meeting, noting that the talks could serve as “both an opportunity and a test.”

Araqchi revealed that the U.S. and Iran would meet in Oman on April 12.

Araqchi wrote on X: “It is as much an opportunity as it is a test. The ball is in America’s court.”
