The administration of President Donald Trump is reportedly considering using the proceeds from the sale of federal lands to help reduce the country’s $36 trillion debt.

However, this proposal is facing strong opposition from Senate Democrats, according to POLITICO.

Republican Senator Mike Lee hinted at the administration’s plan in a post on his official X account on Saturday.

He mentioned, “Democrats tried to block the use of any of that money to reduce our $36 trillion debt, but we stopped them.”

Reports suggest that Congressional Republicans are also considering the sale of public lands as a way to fund Trump’s ambitious domestic agenda. House Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman noted that one potential option under consideration would involve selling land near Western cities or national parks to facilitate the construction of more housing.

Experts have voiced concerns that such land sales could spark significant opposition from both Democrats and public land advocacy organizations.
