Beyoncé’s record for the most streamed album by a black female artist in 2024 has been surpassed by South African singer Tyla.
The achievement was recorded by Tyla’s self-titled debut album, which received 1.565 billion Spotify plays, more than Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” (1.564 billion).
The record is the most streamed album by an African woman artist ever.
On Spotify, the main hit “Water” has received nearly one billion plays. At the 66th Grammy Awards, it took home the inaugural Best African Music Performance trophy.
However, the newly revealed 67th Grammy nominations did not include Tyla’s record or its deluxe edition.
With 20 honors this year, including one Grammy, three MTV EMAs, two BET Awards, one MTV VMA, one Billboard Global Force Award, four South African Music Awards, one Cultural and Creative Industry Award, one DStv Content Creator Award, one Metro FM Music Award, one Africa Arts Entertainment Award, two Basadi in Music Awards, and one South African Style Award, she continues to be the most awarded African artist.
