Manchester City has been dealt another injury blow ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League second-leg clash with Real Madrid next week. Defender Manuel Akanji has been ruled out due to a muscular injury.

Akanji, who was substituted at half-time during City’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, will now miss the return fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu. This setback is a significant one for City as they look to overturn the deficit.

City manager Pep Guardiola has not yet commented on Akanji’s condition following the match against Madrid but is expected to give an update before their Premier League match against Newcastle on Saturday. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the injury, stating that Akanji would be sidelined for a few weeks.

With Akanji unavailable, Guardiola will need to choose from defenders John Stones, Nathan Ake, and Ruben Dias to fill the gap in central defense for the upcoming matches, including the Champions League second leg and the Premier League encounter with Liverpool on February 23.
