Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu has disputed the decision of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) to confirm former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.

Anyanwu stated that the BoT’s decision to confirm Ude-Okoye as National Secretary cannot be regarded seriously.

Despite the Court of Appeal’s decision, he and Ude-Okoye remain at odds over the party’s National Secretary position.

Following Anyanwu’s decision to run for governor of Imo State, Ude-Okoye received the endorsement of the PDP Southeast caucus.

When he returned, Ude-Okoye refused to resign, resulting in court disputes.

During the party’s BoT meeting in Abuja, Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu’s supporters got into a public fight when he was locked out of the premises.

However, at an emergency BoT meeting on Wednesday, PDP trustees confirmed Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.

In response to the BoT’s judgement, Anyanwu maintained that Ude-Okoye could never be sworn in as ordered due to an ongoing court dispute.

Addressing journalists, he said that the expiration of the tenures of around 80% of the BoT members who attended the meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja would prevent the decision from taking effect.

Anyanwu said: “I’m a member of the BoT, I was not invited to the meeting, and neither was the National Chairman. This says a lot. In any case, the tenure of about 80% of those at the meeting expired in October last year.

“They are also aware that this matter is in court. Even Chairman Wabara, who was taken to court, sent a representative. Their advice is just that—advice, and it cannot be taken seriously.”
