Ukrainian War: Russia reveals strong information

On Friday, Russia claimed that its troops had seized control of the strategically important coal-mining city of Toretsk in eastern Ukraine, though Ukraine’s military denied this assertion.

Russia referred to the city by its Soviet-era name, Dzerzhinsk, and declared that the eastern Donetsk region, where the city is located, is now under Russian control.

Reports indicate that after initially failing to capture Kyiv during its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has shifted its focus to securing the Donbas region, which includes the eastern provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Toretsk has become one of the key targets of this push, along with other strategic locations such as Kramatorsk, Kostyantynivka to the northwest, and Pokrovsk to the west.

In a late-night statement, Ukraine’s military General Staff reported that Russian forces had launched 10 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Toretsk area.

“The enemy’s main efforts have been concentrated near the city of Toretsk,” the statement noted, emphasizing that Ukrainian forces had successfully repelled all of these attacks.

A spokesperson for the Khortytsya group of Ukrainian forces, Nazar Voloshyn, stated that the city’s built-up areas were engulfed in intense fighting.

“The enemy is actively advancing and pressing the attack with all available resources,” Voloshyn said.

He also reported that Russian forces were targeting two mines near the city, all of which had been shut down as Russian forces approached, and a school in the town’s center.

Voloshyn added that Russian forces were carrying out around 10 attacks daily in the area.
