A total of 220 students from the Department of Psychology, University of Lagos (UNILAG), were inducted into the student membership cadre of the Nigeria Psychological Association, Lagos State Chapter, on August 1, 2025. The ceremony, which was the first of its kind in the department’s history, was attended by faculty members and top officials of the Nigeria Psychological Association.

The Head of the Department of Psychology, Dr Bolajoko Malomo, congratulated the inductees and challenged them to reflect on their academic journey and make desired impacts. “The event heralds the journey of the inductees as professional psychologists,” she said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Adelaja Odukoya, described the ceremony as a “rebirth” and a “clarion call” for the inductees to make a global impact. He implored them to epitomise the spirit of strength, dignity, forthrightness, and excellence that UNILAG stands for.
In a keynote address, Professor David Okurame spoke on the potentials of psychology in restoring sanity in all spheres of the Nigerian state. He assured the new inductees of a professional identity, network, and access to continuous education, certification, and licensing.

The National President of the Nigeria Psychological Association, Professor Olukayode Afolabi, administered the induction oath and charged the new inductees to join hands with the association in promoting its integrity. “A lot is being done to broaden the scope and relevance of psychology with a view to giving newcomers a better lease of life,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the new inductees, Theophil Ozoigbo appreciated the Department of Psychology and the Nigeria Psychological Association for their grooming and mentoring. She assured that the inductees would fly the flag of the association with honor and dignity
