University holds 23rd Convocation Ceremony, Produces 243 first-class graduates

Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, held its 23rd convocation ceremony on Sunday, graduating 3,568 students from various disciplines. Out of these, 243 students made first class, while 2,543 earned their first degrees and 686 were postgraduates. Lawal Oyiza, a graduate of economics with a CGPA of 4.97, emerged as the overall best graduating student.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Ademola Tayo, who is set to bow out in November after 10 years of leadership, urged the graduands to be committed to a life of selfless service to humanity. “Dear graduates, you have responsibilities to Nigeria and the whole world,” he said. “I encourage you to set aside your iPod, iPad and iPhones for a while and focus on your fellow human beings. Use the knowledge you have gained at Babcock creatively and generously to make a worthy difference.

Tayo highlighted the achievements of his administration, including massive infrastructural development, commencement and accreditation of new courses, and impact on the world through the university’s lecturers and products. “In the last 10 years, through data-driven policies and collaborative governance, we have institutionalised a culture of innovation, accountability, and integrity,” he said.

Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a diplomat from Zimbabwe, urged the graduands to deploy their knowledge to push for world peace and help cut down on violence across Africa and the world. The Vice Chancellor bid the graduands farewell, wishing them the best as they face the future with hope and courage. “Never forget that the true test of your education is in the life you lead after this day,” he said. “Let your knowledge serve justice. Let your talents solve problems. Let your values inspire hope. Be fearless. Be kind. Be Babcock.
