University of Abuja to Introduce Chinese Language, Culture Studies.

The University of Abuja is set to launch a Confucius Institute, which will offer Chinese language learning and culture programs. 

This development was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Maikudi, while welcoming students from China’s Tsinghua University’s School of Journalism and Communications.

The Confucius Institute is a public educational and cultural promotion program that aims to promote the Chinese language and culture, support local Chinese language teaching internationally, and facilitate cultural exchanges.

Prof. Maikudi noted that the University of Abuja has a long-standing relationship with China and is already offering some Mandarin courses.

“We have had extensive cooperation between universities in Nigeria and China to promote cultural integration,” Prof. Maikudi said. The University of Abuja is expected to benefit from this partnership, with the institution being described as “one of the best in this continent.

“Tsinghua University is also one of the best universities in China.”. 

“So, we look forward to having a productive working relationship with the two,” he said.

The Head of the Department of Political Science, Dr. Sheriff Ibrahim, also emphasized the importance of the exchange program between the two universities, stating that it would enhance mutual cultural understanding. The program is expected to foster a productive working relationship between the University of Abuja and Tsinghua University.

As part of the exchange program, a delegation from Tsinghua University, comprising faculty members and PhD students, participated in a seminar on “Mutual Learning between Chinese and Nigeria’s Civilizations” at the University of Abuja’s Faculty of Communications and Media Studies.
