Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, Edo State, has rusticated 34 students from its College of Medicine for examination malpractice. The students, who are in their third and fifth years of study, were found guilty by the Mobile Students Disciplinary Committee of various forms of examination misconduct during the 2022/2023 academic year.

According to a news bulletin signed by F.O. Omoigui, Deputy Registrar (Senate), and Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR) for Information and Public Relations, the affected students were rusticated for a duration of two to four semesters.
The bulletin stated, “This is to inform you that the university management, after due consideration of the reports submitted by the Mobile Disciplinary Committee (College of Medicine), has approved the penalties recommended for the offences committed by the following students during the 2022/2023 session.
A total of 21 students were rusticated for two semesters, while 13 students were rusticated for four semesters, starting from the 2022/2023 academic session. The students were alleged to have utilised unauthorised written materials during examinations, including possessing portions of the university’s answer booklet containing relevant answers, and impersonating other students.

The breakdown of the rustication reveals that 20 students in their fifth year were affected, with 12 receiving a two-semester rustication and eight facing a four-semester rustication.
In addition to the 34 students rusticated, six other students were cleared of the allegations against them, two were advised to maintain good conduct, and one received a warning.
The university’s management took the decision after a thorough investigation by the Mobile Students Disciplinary Committee, emphasizing the importance of academic integrity and discipline among students
