According to the university’s public relations officer, Mr Lanre Kuye, the move reflects the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual harassment, which is backed by a clearly defined sexual harassment policy. “Confirmed, it (the circular) is true. All procedures were followed. It’s been on for some time, and all procedures were followed,” Kuye said.
The affected lecturers are Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Mass Communication department and Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman from the Arts and Design department. The university’s governing council approved their dismissal in accordance with section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service
Kuye emphasised that the university takes allegations of sexual harassment seriously, as they compromise the institution’s image and disrupt the academic environment. “The university has a sexual harassment policy. You cannot just dismiss anybody in any university or anywhere; procedures must be followed. The governing council met on Wednesday and took a decision following normal procedures,” he said.

However, an anonymous source claimed that one of the lecturers was dismissed without clear-cut evidence, suggesting conspiracy. “There’s no clear-cut evidence against him… looks like some people want to pull him down. It’s a messy situation right here.” The lecturer is reportedly planning to appeal the dismissal.
Another source revealed that two of the lecturers had previous issues with similar misconduct, but it didn’t escalate to this extent. “This particular one, there was a video that circulated, which got to the school panel, and it got them penalised.”
The university’s governing council’s decision reflects its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus community. The dismissal of the three lecturers serves as a stern warning to others and underscores the institution’s resolve to tackle sexual harassment head-on.
