The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has denied reports circulating on social media that a new substantive Vice-Chancellor has been appointed. In a statement issued by the university’s acting public relations officer, Inya Egwu, the management described the reports as “the product of mischief-makers and purveyors of falsehood who seek to mislead and incite unsuspecting members of the public with baseless speculations.”

“We wish to state categorically that no such appointment has been made,” the statement read. “The selection process for a substantive vice-chancellor is still ongoing, and no candidate has been announced or confirmed.

The university advised the general public to disregard the unfounded reports, assuring that the institution remains committed to a transparent and merit-based selection process. “The Selection Committee, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Engr. Kayode Ojo, is diligently carrying out its mandate and will announce the most qualified candidate upon conclusion of the process,” the statement added.

The university is currently being led by Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam, who was appointed as Acting Vice-Chancellor in February 2025, following the tenure of Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu
