According to reports, Paul Obukohwo, a 24-year-old up-and-coming artist, passed away while in the Delta State Police Command’s custody after going to Asaba to release his friend from police custody.

According to reports, the young man’s injuries from the police caused him to pass away on Saturday morning.

After being taken by police to the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba for medical attention, Obukohwo was pronounced dead there.

His remains were still at the FMC in Asaba at the time this report was filed. When he was declared dead, the police officers who had hurried him to the hospital reportedly ran away.

According to information obtained, Prosper Odili, a 19-year-old companion of the deceased, was allegedly taken into custody by members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at around 8:00 am on Wednesday along Redeemed Road in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

Additionally, it was said that the police brought the aforementioned Prosper to his home, where they searched him but were unable to find any evidence of his guilt. They returned him and held him at the Asaba police headquarters.

Around 5:00 p.m. that same day, Paul Obukohwo, the dead, went to the RRS office to request bail for his friend Prosper. He was shockingly arrested, detained, and apparently beaten into unconsciousness and severely injured by the agents before being thrown into a jail where he passed out.

Initially, the officers hurried him to the police clinic, but they were unable to manage the situation and sent him to an Asaba specialty hospital.

He passed away on Saturday morning at the Federal Medical Centre after the specialist hospital was unable to manage the situation.

Our correspondent in Warri received a WhatsApp message from SP Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, saying, “He fell sick and was taken to the hospital, diagnosed of low sugar, he was referred to Asaba Specialist Hospital and later to FMC before he died.”
