The United States and Iran have commenced crucial ceasefire talks in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
This marks the first direct peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
US Vice President JD Vance is at the forefront of the American delegation attending the talks.
Vance has already met with Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, ahead of the critical ceasefire discussions.
Iran’s top officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, are also in Islamabad and have held talks with Sharif.
In a show of support, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian voiced his confidence in the negotiating team.
Pezeshkian expressed that the delegates would “negotiate bravely” to protect the nation’s interests.
“Regardless of the outcome, our service to the people remains unwavering, and the government will stand by the people,” Pezeshkian affirmed on X.
