The mid-air collision between a US Army helicopter and an American Airlines passenger airliner has been characterized by US President Donald Trump as a “bad situation that should have been prevented.”

Instead of asking if they noticed the plane, Trump subtly blamed the control tower, asking why it didn’t instruct the chopper.

According to report gathered, on Wednesday at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, an American Airlines aircraft and a US Army Black Hawk chopper collided in midair.

The report stated that the aircraft, which had taken off from Wichita, Kansas, was carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members.

“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time. It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn.

“Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!” the president continued.

CNN however reported that it was not immediately clear whether Trump’s post was based on information on which he had been officially briefed.
