US Authorities disclosed what caused the helicopter crash that killed Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe and family

Preliminary assessments, according to US officials, point to severe weather conditions as a major cause in the helicopter crash that killed Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holding Plc, along with his wife, son, and other individuals.

Michael Graham, a National Transportation Safety Board member, said during a media briefing on Saturday (3 am Nigerian time, Sunday) that officials were at the crash site to collect perishable evidence.

“Witness reports of the weather conditions during the accident suggest rain and a wintry mix,” Graham explained.

He pointed out that neither a flight data recorder nor a cockpit voice recorder were installed in the helicopter since they were unnecessary.

Graham stated that no details were provided at the time on the passengers.

Without giving a timeframe, he continued by saying that the coroner’s office would divulge any names.

In the meantime, a statement issued by Access Bank on Sunday verified Wigwe’s passing as well as the deaths of his family members.

On Saturday night, word spread that Wigwe had died in an American jet crash in California.
