Scott Perry, a Congressman from Pennsylvania, has accused the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) of financing terrorist groups such as Boko Haram.
Perry made this claim during the first session of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency on Thursday.
In his remarks at a session titled “The War on Waste: Stamping Out the Scourge of Improper Payments and Fraud,” Perry criticized USAID for allocating $136 million to build 120 schools in Pakistan, but stated there was “no proof” the schools were ever built.
Perry said, “Who benefits from some of that money? Does anyone recognize the name? Because your funds, your money, $697 million annually, along with shipments of cash to Madrasas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, ISIS Khorasan, and terrorist training camps. That’s what it’s supporting.”
“You’re funding terrorism, and it’s coming through USAID. And it’s not just Afghanistan, because Pakistan is right next door.”
“Someone else received the money. You are funding terrorism. This must stop.”
This follows former President Donald Trump’s efforts to shut down USAID, citing alleged corruption.
Similarly, American billionaire Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency, has also criticized USAID, calling it involved in what he describes as rogue operations.
Musk referred to USAID as “a viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America” and has pledged to shut it down.
