The administration of President Donald Trump has announced that it is restructuring the US Department of State in order to remove some positions that it deems unnecessary.
According to him, the government would also end certain initiatives that it claims do not serve US interests.
The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, said this in a statement on Tuesday.
He claims that this strategy will empower the Department from the ground up, including the embassies and bureaus.
According to him, non-statutory initiatives that are not in line with America’s fundamental national interests will be eliminated, superfluous offices will be eliminated, and region-specific activities will be combined to improve functionality.
He said, “This approach will empower the Department from the ground up, from the bureaus to the embassies. Region-specific functions will be consolidated to increase functionality, redundant offices will be removed, and non-statutory programs that are misaligned with America’s core national interests will cease to exist.”
