Professor Uche Uwaleke, a renowned expert in capital market studies, will deliver the 50th inaugural lecture at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, on February 26, 2024. The lecture, titled “Unlocking Wealth and Leveraging Entrepreneurial Knowledge Ecosystems: Understanding Capital-Harnessing Essentials,” will focus on wealth creation, entrepreneurship, and the role of capital markets in economic development.
According to the university, “An inaugural lecture is a formal academic event where a professor presents their research, academic journey, and vision for their field. It marks the professor’s official induction to the academic community and represents a significant milestone in the academic career of the varsity don.”
The event is expected to attract key government officials, financial regulators, and industry leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Uwaleke, who is the President of the Capital Market Academics of Nigeria, has had an illustrious career spanning academia, regulatory agencies, and government. He was a former Commissioner for Finance in Imo State and Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria.
In 2022, former Finance Minister Zainab Ahmed described Uwaleke as a key figure in Nigeria’s financial sector, citing his extensive contributions to economic policy and financial market analysis. “He is a key figure in Nigeria’s financial sector, and his contributions to economic policy and financial market analysis are invaluable,” she said.
The lecture is expected to provide insights into capital market development and economic transformation, bringing together stakeholders from academia, government, and industry. As the Director of the Institute of Capital Market Studies at Nasarawa State University, Uwaleke is well-positioned to share his expertise and provide guidance on unlocking wealth and leveraging entrepreneurial knowledge ecosystems.
Uwaleke’s lecture is expected to be a landmark event, providing a platform for stakeholders to engage in discussions on the role of capital markets in economic development. As he noted, “The capital market has a critical role to play in unlocking wealth and leveraging entrepreneurial knowledge ecosystems. It is essential that we understand the intricacies of the market and develop strategies to harness its potential for economic growth and development.”
The event is also expected to attract traditional and academic leaders, including the Emir of Keffi, Alh. Dr. Chindo Shehu Yamusa III, and President of the Nigerian Economic Society, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju.
In a statement, the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, said, “We are honoured to have Professor Uwaleke deliver the 50th inaugural lecture of our university. His expertise in capital market studies will undoubtedly provide valuable insights to our students, faculty, and stakeholders.”
The lecture is scheduled to take place on February 26, 2024, at the university’s auditorium and is expected to be attended by over 500 guests, including government officials, financial regulators, industry leaders, and academics.
As Uwaleke prepared to deliver his lecture, he emphasised the importance of understanding the capital market’s role in economic development. “It is crucial that we develop a deep understanding of the capital market’s dynamics and its potential to drive economic growth and development,” he said.
