Osarugbe, a 23-year-old Nigerian lady, has died in Libya.
On Friday, April 4, 2025 she died at about 11:33am after battling illness.
Yakubu Oyiza, an anti-human trafficking activist, and her group had been collecting funds to return to Nigeria for improved medical care after Libyan hospitals turned her away.
According to Oyiza, documentation for burial, autopsy, and land to bury her in Libya have been prepared, all costing around 350,000.
She said that her family had left her behind after she became ill and had previously declined to travel to Kano to collect her on the day she was to be returned to Nigeria.
On Saturday, April 5, Oyiza posted on Facebook that some of the deceased’s relatives had contacted them and asked for Osas’ belongings.
“Since yesterday that I called Osa’s family and told them their sister passed, they haven’t called me back to ask how far,” she wrote.
“We sent 350k for her burial (to Libya) which they are still asking for more but guess what? Osas’ family is calling for us her properties.
“They want her properties, we haven’t laid this girl to rest but they are making trouble with us for someone I don’t know for properties.
“Most of these young girls that run to Libya have something chasing them. I am devastated.”
