With his recent comments regarding the biblical story of Adam and Eve, Nigerian clergyman Apostle Abel Damina has sparked a lot of debate.
The vocal preacher recently told his congregation that Adam and Eve did not consume anything in the Garden of Eden, rejecting the conventional wisdom that says their fall was caused by their consumption of the forbidden fruit.
In his speech, Apostle Damina challenged the generally held notion, asking his audience if they were present in the Garden to verify whether Adam and Eve eaten anything at all.
Apostle Damina went on to say that eating or drinking cannot make someone a sinner, adding that while certain behaviours, like smoking or drinking alcohol, may have negative effects in real life, they are not intrinsically sinful.
Online responses to his comments have been divided, with some praising his interpretation and others denouncing it as an unduly contentious interpretation of the Bible.
