VIDEO: American Woman accuses bystanders of laughing and filming her while she was r@ped on Island

While many laughed, took pictures with their phones, and did nothing to assist, a Brooklyn, New York lady claims she was r@ped on Coney Island during the Fourth of July Independence celebrations.

The 25-year-old Melissa Harris told CBS News that she was on the beach at around three in the morning when she stumbled over a walking mat while attempting to flee a man who was approaching her with what she called “bad vibes.”

On the beach, she claimed, the male forced oral sex on her. At one point, they were illuminated by the light from a passing golf cart, but the driver just sped away without stopping.

Harris’s assailant pursued her along Stillwell Avenue after she was able to escape.

She told CBS that there were witnesses to the second assault who did nothing, and that she was afraid and helpless to defend herself.

Harris reported that she was hanging out with a group she had recently met when she arrived at the boardwalk at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, following the fireworks. Among them was the man who had attacked her. She said the group fled after the attacks.

Before the incident, she showed CBS footage of people congregating around a bonfire. According to Harris, she is coming out in order to identify and remove her assailant from society. The NYPD acknowledged that she had reported the incident and that an investigation was in progress.
