In furtherance of the fight against insecurity and illegal idolatry in the state, the Anambra State Government, on Wednesday, sealed a popular shrine at Umuofor village in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.

This occurs just one month after the state’s Homeland Security Law was passed in order to combat criminal groups that are impeding the state’s efforts to combat instability.

It was claimed that the well-known and feared shrine, which was guarded by agents of the recently established security group Agụnechemba (also called Operation Udo Ga-Achi), was one of the ones that encourages crime in the state.

The shrine, which was allegedly run by a man named Ekene Igboegbueze, was being used to carry out activities that violated the relevant sections of the Anambra Homeland Security Law, according to Mr. Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, who spoke during the enforcement.

He claims that the government authorities sealed the shrine after receiving numerous complaints from the locals about the illicit activities occurring there. One such complaint was made in an online video in which Mr. Ekene accused the native doctor of making get-rich-quick charms for people from the community and beyond, including Oke ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele.

“Igboegbueze’s business is illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.

“All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and the results will determine further government’s action,” Emeakai said, adding that properties acquired through the illicit trade have also been sealed.

The Agunechemba Security Outfit’s Director of Operation, Mr. Chinenye Ihenko, made a contribution by denouncing criminal idolatry and other practices of native doctors and pastors that promote the get-rich-quick syndrome. He also warned the youths not to patronize such individuals because they would be held fully accountable if they were caught.

“The activities of fake spiritual leaders are fueling a get-rich-quick mentality in the state.

“Our mandate is to sanitize Anambra, and we are committed to that. Anything contributing to the desecration of the state or aiding criminal activities will be eradicated. That, we can assure the people,” Ihenko declared.
