After a video of gospel musician Marvin Sapp pleading with churchgoers to contribute $40,000 surfaced online, he was widely criticized.

He even goes so far as to tell ushers to close the church doors so that no one may leave, as shown in the video.

In the video, Marvin Sapp said he believes $40,000 can be funded because he knows thousands of people were in the auditorium and thousands more were watching online.

“This is a small seed,” he said to his congregation as he begged them to donate.

“I’m challenging each of you all down here to give a twenty dollar seed,” he added, while explaining that if the 1,000 present members and 1,000 online give $20 each, they would easily raise the $40,000 target.
