On March 18, 2025, 91-year-old Marcel Niat Njifenji was re-elected as Cameroon’s Senate President with 87 out of 90 votes.
Since the Senate’s founding in 2013, he has served 13 consecutive terms. He continues to be the Cameroonian president’s constitutional successor as Senate President.
Niat Njifenji’s re-election shows that his colleagues still believe in his leadership, despite his advanced age and past health issues.
The following details are important to note: President of Cameroon is 93, President of the Senate is 90, and President of the National Assembly is 85.
