A Catholic priest has been detained by Plateau State authorities on suspicion of supplying various firearms to criminal bandit groups that operate in the state and its surrounding areas.

According to security officials, the cleric was arrested after an intelligence-led investigation revealed his alleged participation in supplying armed groups with weaponry of various calibers.

The arrest, according to investigators, is a part of a larger campaign against the illicit weaponry supply chain that is thought to be fueling attacks throughout the Plateau and neighboring regions.

As security officials continue questioning suspects and strive to uncover the network underlying the illegal weapons trafficking, further information about the investigation is anticipated.
