The village of Magarau, found within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has been entirely deserted.
This development followed a series of assaults by armed bandits aligned with the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.
Bakatsine, a journalist covering conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest, revealed the incident on Friday in a post on X.
Bakatsine noted that the ongoing violence compelled the whole community to escape, resulting in only ruins, silence, and a persistent sense of fear remaining.
He wrote: “Magarau village, located in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has been completely abandoned following repeated attacks by armed bandits loyal to Bello Turji. The sustained violence has forced the entire community to flee, leaving behind only ruins, silence, and a lingering atmosphere of fear.
“Will this cycle of violence, displacement, and impunity continue to define Nigeria’s security crisis?”
