A young Nigerian woman has recounted her painful story after she was tricked and trafficked to Egypt by a friend who offered her a job at a hair salon. She was abused in a stranger’s home and forced to perform difficult housework instead of working in a salon.

In an interview with Arise Television, she said that she was compelled to clean and occasionally asked to perform tasks like electrical work that she was not qualified to perform. She was beaten when she was unable to complete the task. She attempted to voice her displeasure to her “sponsor,” the man who had transported her to Egypt, but he assured her it wasn’t his concern. He was only interested in getting paid.

She described how some of the Egyptian men in the houses she worked in would try to touch her inappropriately. If she refused, they would threaten to kill her. “And those Egyptian men, if you’re working in the house, they like touching you, and when you say no, they will say they’ll kill you,” she stated. Feeling confined and despondent, she once tried to drink bleach to terminate her life.

She eventually confided in her mother in Nigeria about her ordeal. She was eventually saved and returned home after her mother and uncle banded together to request assistance.
