Michael Piper, a civil society organization spokesperson, has given Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi a strict 48-hour ultimatum, demanding an apology and a change in behavior, in a video released by SYMFONI.

As the group’s spokesperson, Dr. Piper said, “We the civil society group are sorry, we won’t align with you. We are giving you 48 hours, so we are not telling you, we are giving you 48 hours Mr. Peter Obi to go and change your ways and then we can forgive you and go on working together.”

He also threatened to completely distance himself from Mr. Obi if he didn’t cooperate. “But if he continues what he is doing, we will be very glad to get rid of him and we will continue,” he said, without mentioning any particular complaints or deeds that led to the order.

The hitherto cordial relationship between Obi’s political organization and civil society players has come under scrutiny as a result of the message. Numerous supporters and onlookers have called for clarification on the specific charges against Obi and what “changing his ways” would mean.

As the deadline draws near, analysts are keeping a close eye on things because they are worried that a split between the leadership of the Labour Party and well-known members of civil society could affect political dynamics before the next elections.

Online discussion has also been triggered by the video, with many people expressing surprise at the ultimatum’s tone and seriousness. How this battle develops over the next few hours is still up in the air.
