After wondering why the majority of Nigerian guys she sees marrying South African women on TikTok are Igbo, a South African woman started a discussion on the app.
She specifically criticized other Nigerian tribes in her widely shared video, posing the question of why they don’t appear to be as represented in these unions.
In her words: “You open TikTok, you find a South African getting married to a Nigerian. Nine times out of ten, that man is Igbo. I don’t remember when last I saw a Hausa man, a Yoruba man, an Edo man… Nine times out of ten, it’s an Igbo guy.”
“My Yoruba brothers, my Hausa brothers — the few we have in South Africa — my Edo brothers, what’s going on? Why are you not marrying my sisters? You can’t just be dashing these women babies and not doing the needful. Igbo men are coming through strong.”
Since then, the post has become popular, with many users commenting on the cultural facets of relationships between Africans.
