A white woman who grew up in Nigeria has struck back at those accusing her of “mocking” Nigerian Pidgin with the way she speaks.
In an angry outburst, she said she’s lived in Nigeria since she was two months old, surrounded by people speaking Pidgin every day, so it’s only natural she picked up the accent.
She likened it to Nigerians who grew up in the UK or Ireland, who speak with British or Irish accents without criticism for “mocking” those cultures.
“But me, because I’m a white woman raised in Nigeria, I’m suddenly mocking the culture? I don’t understand you guys,” she said.
