Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that pre-match comments from the Zambian team served as motivation for their dominant win in Friday’s quarter-final match at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The team, led by Justine Madugu, delivered a commanding 5-0 victory to secure their spot in the semi-finals.
Zambia had impressed during the group stage, nearly defeating tournament hosts Morocco in the opening match, and going on to beat both Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Leading up to the clash, much of the discussion focused on Zambia’s potent forward pair—Barbara Banda and Rachel Kundananji.
However, the Super Falcons responded with a performance that quieted critics and football analysts alike.
Ajibade admitted that the negative talk helped fuel their determination to win.
“There was a lot of talk from the Zambia camp, and we heard all of it. It was big motivation for us,” the winger said after the game.
