An Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis has resulted in the death of top Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardaweel and his wife.

According to a Hamas source cited by the BBC on Sunday morning, Bardaweel and his wife were praying together when an Israeli missile struck their tent.

Israeli officials had not provided any immediate comment at the time of the report.

It’s worth noting that Israel resumed significant airstrikes on Gaza on Tuesday, following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement. Israel held Hamas responsible for not extending the first phase of the ceasefire, which had been in effect since January 19 and lasted nearly two months. In response, Hamas rejected Israel’s accusations and accused Israel of violating the ceasefire deal brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

An official from the Hamas-run health ministry reported that 32 Palestinians were killed across various parts of Gaza in the past 24 hours.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas intensified after an unprecedented cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and 251 people being taken hostage.
