Shehu Sani, a former senator who served the Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the last Assembly, has strongly opposed the United States’ attempt to relocate Venezuelan deportees to Nigeria.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, revealed on Thursday that the US has been pressuring Nigeria and several other African nations to receive deportees from Venezuela.
While speaking during an appearance on Politics Today aired by Channels Television, the minister stated that Nigeria might not be in a position to accommodate these individuals.
In response, Shehu Sani shared via his verified X account that the Nigerian authorities should not permit the entry of these prisoners now or at any time in the future.
He emphasized that while the US has the right to repatriate Nigerian inmates back to their home country, it should not attempt to send Venezuelan citizens to Nigeria.
He wrote, “If the US wants to send Nigerian prisoners in US Jails back to Nigeria, that is ok and should be accepted.
“We don’t want Venezuelan prisoners in our country and there should be no space for them now or in the future”.
