Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has disclosed that more than 15,000 individuals have applied for the 3,000 available roles in the state’s civil service.

In June, the state government made public its intention to hire 3,000 workers divided equally among the teaching sector, healthcare services, and the core civil service allocating 1,000 positions to each area.

These openings became available following a verification exercise that exposed 3,000 non-existent employees on the payroll.

Speaking during the monthly prayer meeting in Uyo, the governor emphasized his commitment to a fair and open hiring process, assuring that the selection will be strictly merit-based.

He explained that the recruitment would be conducted through a computer-based assessment that would produce immediate results, stating clearly that “there are no slots, and there is no favouritism.”

In past recruitment efforts, concerns were raised over favoritism, lack of transparency, and rising tension among applicants across the state.

Eno also disclosed, “In the past two days, I inspected 23 projects across the state and was inspired by the number of youths, engineers, artisans, and even young female project leaders, actively engaged. This is the spirit we must embrace: more hard work.”
