Youths in Orile-Imo, located in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, have voiced strong opposition to the reported suspension of their community figurehead, the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo, Chief Olakunle Olalekan.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the youths warned that the situation, if left unresolved, could trigger unnecessary tension in the area.

According to reports, Oba Oluwambe Sogaolu, the Olu of Orile Imo, had suspended Chief Olalekan through an official communication signed by the Balogun of Orile Imo, Chief Isiaq Adesanya, and dated August 12, 2025.

The letter, titled “Orile Imo Traditional Council Resolution,” cited allegations of gross misconduct, disregard for traditional leadership, and failure to acknowledge the established authority of Orile-Imo as reasons for the suspension.

In response, the community’s youth rejected the decision, urging influential stakeholders to step in before the situation escalates into conflict.

The youth leader, Jimoh Idris, emphasized that Chief Olalekan has been instrumental in the development of Orile-Imo and called on the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, to intervene without delay to maintain peace and stability in the town.

He said: “We don’t want crisis in Orile-Imo. We learnt that Sogaolu said he has suspended Asiwaju. We, the Orile-Imo youths, are not in support.

“Asiwaju was the one who facilitated the major development in this community, so someone who came yesterday cannot just wake up one day and suspend him. All the youths and other community members are in support of Asiwaju.

“We are crying for help. This community must not experience crisis, we are also appealing to the Alake of Egbaland to wade into this and this is why we have come to the media for Alake to hear this and come to our aid.

“Our position is clear, we want peace, but we cannot fold our arms and watch injustice prevail in our land.”
