Malam Hisham Habib, the pioneer chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, has refuted Dr. Boniface Aniebonum, the party’s national chairman, who claimed that Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya sect abandoned him.
Hisham claimed that the party had never been more positive in its history following the arrival of Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s national leader and presidential candidate, in 2023.
As a participant in and observer of the party’s operations both before and after Kwankwaso and his supporters joined, the former party chairman for Kano State claimed that the remarks attributed to the party’s founder lacked grace and satisfaction.
He said the party was at its lowest point, and the leadership had failed to revive the frail structures, particularly in the states. He emphasized that Kwankwaso’s demise should be attributed to God, as he turned the party into one that is incapable of fielding candidates for a convention or even winning seats in elections.
“Kwankwaso’s entrance brought NNPP the first major victory that was spectacular and unimaginable, we won the governorship with the highest number in the country, no other governor scored a million votes is a milestone and a feat, moreover the Party’s presence at the national assembly was unprecedented,” he said.
He emphasized that Kwankwaso has been consistent in his dealings with people who have supported him, earning him respect both nationally and internationally. He also urged the chairman of the Board of Trustees to exhibit the better part of maturity expected of a statesman and ignore the evil machinations of the saboteurs who are scared of the successes recorded by the party and the prospect it has in the near future.
The former chairman added that Kwankwaso is the leader of the party, which puts him ahead of the pack given his past in politics, and that Nigerians from all walks of life joined the party due to the former Defence Minister.
