The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has constituted appeal panels to address petitions and complaints arising from its recently conducted presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state legislative primaries.

The party stated that the panels were set up to reinforce transparency, fairness and internal democratic principles in the process of selecting candidates.

In a statement released on Thursday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the committees would handle grievances submitted by aspirants and stakeholders dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries.

According to him, the panels are expected to review all complaints and make recommendations in accordance with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines and other applicable legal provisions.

“The appeal panels will hear and review appeals from contestants and stakeholders who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries. They will also make recommendations in line with the party’s Constitution, Electoral Guidelines and relevant provisions of the law,” he stated.

Mohammed explained that the development demonstrates the PDP’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible candidate selection process ahead of future elections.

He further disclosed that the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, would head the appeal panel handling disputes related to the governorship and presidential primaries, while former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, would serve as one of the members.

The spokesman also revealed that Suleiman Afolagbe would chair the committee responsible for appeals concerning state assembly and National Assembly primaries.

According to the statement, the nine-member legislative appeals panel is scheduled to sit on June 8 and June 9 at the National Working Committee, NWC, Hall at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The 24-member governorship and presidential appeal panel is expected to begin sittings on June 10 at the same venue.
