Ismail Afolabi, a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, was taken into custody by members of the Ogun State Police Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit at the Saje Area of Car Wash in Abeokuta.
After police got reliable information that members of the Eiye Confraternity were planning a covert meeting to commit crimes, the suspect was taken into custody.
The culprit was caught while trying to escape, according to police spokeswoman Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest to ZINGTIE on Sunday.
According to Odutola, he was discovered in possession of a cross bag that had live ammo and a loaded cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun.
She said, “On Friday, June 27, 2025, at about 05:30 pm , the Ogun State Police Command received credible intelligence that members of the Eiye Confraternity were holding a clandestine meeting with suspected criminal intent at the Saje Area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.
“Operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit swiftly mobilized to the scene. On arrival, one suspect, Ismail Afolabi ‘m’, was found in possession of a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition.”
The spokesperson stated that efforts are being made to find further accomplices and that preliminary investigations have begun.
The Command reaffirmed its dedication to upholding state peace and order and eliminating violence associated with cults.
