Mojeed Fatai, the deputy speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has stepped down.
According to Fatai, his resignation is effective as of today, Monday.
He made this revelation during the plenary, which Speaker Mojisola Meranda presided over.
“I hereby tender my resignation as the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, effective today, March 3, 2025.”
Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker, was conspicuously absent from the Assembly floor.
This follows a meeting outside the Assembly’s chambers between Meranda, Obasa, and the legislators.
Following the debate, Meranda and the parliamentarians went back to the Assembly chambers to resume plenary, but it is unclear exactly what was said.
The drama began in January when MPs installed Meranda, Obasa’s deputy, after impeaching him for embezzlement.
