Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic has taken a swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal captain inspired his side to a convincing 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan at the FIFA World Cup.
Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal recorded a dominant win over Uzbekistan at the Houston Stadium.
After netting his second goal of the encounter, the Portuguese star celebrated by delivering a brief message: “I’m back.”
The Al-Nassr forward, who is now 41 years old, repeated the same statement while leaving the pitch after the final whistle.
Responding to Ronaldo’s remark, Ibrahimovic questioned the significance of the statement during an appearance on Fox Sports.
“I thought he never left, I don’t know why he says ‘I’m back,’” he said.
The comments came after Ronaldo faced criticism following Portugal’s opening group-stage fixture against DR Congo.
The veteran forward failed to find the net in that encounter as Roberto Martinez’s side settled for a 1-1 draw.
